Astrology for February 2025

Aquarius New Moon, Chinese New Year & February Astrology

The Winter evening skies show us our solar system home. Step out and look up in the East to beautiful Jupiter, bright and high, next to the Taurus constellation and the star, Aldebaran. Drop your eyes to the lower left to see red Mars as he stretches farther from Jupiter, next to Gemini, the Twins. Turn to the West and see brilliant Venus guarding the sunset, dim Saturn just below, a pendant hanging from Venus’s diamond light.

In the predawn morning hours, we might step into the awe of this cosmos to begin our day. Looking to the east, and slightly South, watch the Scorpion constellation rise. The large stellar creature moving upward. Red Antares sparkling in its dragon like body.

Each night, the stars call to us to remember who we are, and to remember this great intelligent, creative, and sacred mystery in which we live, our cosmos.

January 29th – New Moon at 9 Aquarius

This is the second New Moon from the Winter Solstice, which begins the Chinese New Year of the Wood Snake or Serpent. This Aquarius New Moon is in a flowing trine with Jupiter in Gemini, supporting growth, expansion of plans, rapid sharing of information and communications, positive outcomes. It’s encouragement, for each one of us to attune to what inspires us, and to enlarge our lives with new vision, new beginnings.

Aquarius highlights community and gathering together with others to share ideas, creativity, and information. Aquarius carries the visionary tones of opening to receive greater insight, direction, and innovation from the intelligent creative field in which we live. Aquarius is about the people and the power of the people. Pluto, now, at 1 degree Aquarius, begins its 20 year sojourn to transform what is toxic for our communities, and what old concepts and beliefs obstruct, repress, and punish our striving for equality.

With Pluto conjuncting Mercury in Aquarius, at the new Moon, we listen to what needs healing, what is being revealed. The portal is open to the below and the above. We witness issues of power, abuse and use of power. Pluto is a truth bearer, as well as the god who brings what was hidden to the surface. When Pluto is with Mercury, the call is to, “Transform your thoughts and transform your life. Be curious. Investigate the unconscious”. Seek the deeper conditioning causes. Learn what and how you shape your life.

Mars in Cancer squares Chiron in Aries. Defensive reactions respond to the collective wound of aggression. For individuals, the next month gives us insight to deeper unconscious patterns of reaction. What an opportunity to wake up into greater consciousness and choice based creative living and interacting! Watch what triggers you. To be triggered and to seek its deeper cause is the transformative passage before us. What values and beliefs shape our lives? And what actions will we take based on those values? What gives meaning to our lives? Venus conjuncts Neptune in Pisces. Can we rise to the occasion for empathy and understanding, honoring unity and wholeness rather that polarizing and separateness?

Join with others and receive creative insight. Empower ourselves with Aquarius insight

It is a time when we once again reach out to belong to something larger than our individual selves, the Aquarius theme. In December of 2020, Jupiter and Saturn conjuncted at 1 Aquarius, marking the entrance to a “New Era” for humanity that will evolve over the next 200 years. This degree then becomes a “super charged degree”. It holds a special energy that reverberates the theme of a new Era, of evolution of purpose. We might honor this day by making space to observe, write, contemplate, tuning into a deeper wisdom, opening to the downpour of the Aquarian waters from the higher states of consciousness, from the cosmic intelligence that holds and informs us.

Affirmation for New Moon in Aquarius

“I take time to tune in to my higher self, my inner guidance, to receive the guiding messages of Jupiter in Gemini for my journey and purpose in 2025. I honor my own inner wisdom, the kundalini energy of body and soul as the Year of the Snake begins”

2025, the Year of the Wood Serpent in Chinese astrology

Begins January 29th, 4:36 am PST, at the 2nd New Moon after the Winter Solstice. We feel its energy entering in the beginning of the year

On January 29th we move into the year of the Wood Serpent (Snake), leaving the Dragon year. In the year of the Serpent we move from a dynamic year of yang energy to a year of dynamic yin energy, turning inward to bring forth wisdom, seeking answers to deeper underlying causes which can bring forth wisdom. This is a year to wisely plan and to seek answers. The serpent is determined to achieve goals, but in a yin way, through thoughtful foresight and strategy. Expect political extremes and the exposing of secrets. We can imagination the Serpent to coil then spring into quick movement. Think of the Serpent shedding its skin to be birthed anew. 2025 carries this energy.

The Serpent carries the mystical, ancient wisdom teachings. It is the inner power of kundalini energy, the instinctive energy of the body, that responds to alertness and attention. A year to deepen our practices, listen for wisdom, and be in mindfulness.

The element of Wood is the element of the Serpent in 2025. The wood element supports formulating and implementing ideas while working cooperatively with others. This is an excellent year for implementing our ideas, community efforts and projects. Wood is the element of Spring and implies quick growth, sudden breakthroughs.

Jan 29 – Chinese New Year New Moon at 9 Aquarius begins the year of the Wood Snake – (see above)

Jan 30 – Uranus direct at 23 Taurus – the Uranian energy of disruption and change is emphasized since the last full moon in November. Find your inner place of stability. 23 degrees Taurus is activated along with 23 degrees in all signs, stimulating the new, breaking through, awakening to broader dimensions of being. If you find yourself caught in prolonged crisis or panic, seek a mentor you admire. The portals can open to breakthrough from fear into more insight and freedom from old perspectives, and taking up new actions.

Jan 30 – Sun at 11 Aquarius trines Jupiter at 11 Gemini (stationary to go direct) – (see above, new Moon trine Jupiter) Any planet or point in your natal chart at 11 Gemini, 11 Aquarius or 11 Libra is meeting the opportunity for growth, expansion, and broadening your knowledge through learning and/or travel, especially as Jupiter goes direct, which creates a longer time period of opportunity.

Feb 1 – Imbolc – Cross Quarter Celtic Celebration – Honoring the coming rebirth of spring – Halfway mark between Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox. “Historically Imbolc was the festival celebrating the Goddess Brigid, honoring the healing arts, fertility, agriculture, music, poetry, and art, as well as representing the gifts of prophecy.” (https://exploredeeply.com/live-your-purpose/spiritual-meaning-of-imbolc)

Feb 3 – Mars retrograde at 19 Cancer squares Chiron in Aries – Mars retrograde is a time when previous actions are overturned or seen in new light. Seeking a new relationship with aggression, bullying, and separating through blame. Or reactive aggression. Being triggered by our deep wounds, (squaring Chiron in Aries).

Feb 3 – Venus enters Aries – The Goddess of relationship moves into her warrior mode, bold and fearless, independent, and trusting her intuitive insights. We might ask ourselves, “Where might we be more true to ourselves, especially in relation to others? How would that look? How balanced are we between self and other?” Venus in Aries is like Diana, the huntress, with her dogs, totally immersed in nature, instinctual and sensually attentive. It can also be an uncomfortable position for peace-loving Venus. Therefore we say that Venus is in the sign of her detriment in Aries, both trying to be relational, but also true to her pioneering and independent spirit.

Feb 4 – Jupiter goes direct at 11 Gemini – Late January and early February has a Jupiterian in Gemini influence, bold, confident, expansive, growth promoting. Quick moving news and information. Under strong Jupiter transits, we must watch for the Jupiterian trait of excess, going too far, overly confident, and arrogant.  (Hmm I wonder what Gemini that reminds us of?) Check your chart for 11 Gemini, Libra and Aquarius.

Feb 7 – Venus at 2 Aries sextiles Pluto in Aquarius – Intensity of conversation and strategies, power to transform relationships.

Feb 7, 8 – The Sun & Mercury at 19 Aquarius sextiles Chiron in Aries – These days highlight the Wounded Healer, Chiron. What healing is taking place that asks us to be courageous. What wounding is taking place that calls for healing? In what ways are we integrating more courage and intuitive insight in our lives?

Feb 9 – The Sun conjuncts Mercury at 20 Aquarius – Listen, watch for synchronicities. When Mercury is cazimi the Sun, brilliant insights can be received. What messages are you receiving?

Feb 9 – Mars retrograde at 18 Cancer trines Saturn in Pisces – Steady forward progress, especially on projects you have left unfinished in 2024 and before. Good time to review your relationship to Saturn. For some, that’s the inner harsh critic. For others, it’s how one goes about completing one’s intentions. Let Saturn be the master teacher, helping you to understand what old conditioning needs to be cut away so more abundance can come into your life.

Disruption of the status quo can lead to positive and visionary insights or chaos and upheaval.

Full Moon in Leo

Feb 12 – Full Moon at 24 Leo, 5:54 am PST

Affirmation for full Moon in Leo

“I stand straight with an open chest as I honor my own expression and way of being. I seek a deeper relationship to my authentic and heart felt self.”

The full Moon in Leo opposes the Sun in Aquarius. Leo is the fulfillment of individual expression. Aquarius is the individual part of something greater than itself. At this time we can work with this polarity to find balance in our lives.

Feb 14 – Mercury enters Pisces – When Mercury enters Pisces it highlights the imaginative, poetic mind, nonlinear and sensitive to what is around it. Considered to be in the sign of its detriment, meaning Mercury works best when in a more linear sign, like Virgo, which it rules. Mercury works a bit harder in the sign Pisces to organize thoughts and plans. Mercury in Pisces is best channeled through imaginative acts and nonlinear thinking.

Feb 18 – The Sun enters Pisces in the time of year right before spring and new beginnings. The two fish illustrate this transitional time, between past and future. Being a water sign, Pisces stirs up deeper impulses within our unconscious as we make these transitions. It is also a sign connected with the collective feeling body, out of which comes empathy and sometimes overwhelm. During the time of Pisces we might brings things to completion in preparation for Spring. Or we enter the studio to imagine and create.

Feb 23 – Mercury at 17 Pisces trines Mars retro in Cancer – Mercury trines Mars, is direct and expressive, and to the point. Water signs, Pisces and Cancer, are moved by feelings and moods, leading to an activated unconscious verbal response. Even, “Out of the mouths of babes” comes truth. Write. Let yourself express your mind. Seek deeper answers and awareness.

Feb 23 – Mars goes direct at 17 Cancer – As Mars leaves its retrograde phase, its beneficial to review what has taken place since December 6th, and what can you learn about your actions and responses during this Mars retrograde. Now we are ready to move forward with more ease on our projects and intentions.

Feb 25 – Mercury at 20 Pisces conjuncts Saturn – a focused mind, a disciplined approach to mental work, giving form to our imaginings. Keeping a secret, holding back from communication. The authority declares the law.

Feb 27 – Mercury at 23 Pisces sextiles Uranus in Taurus – Insight, inventive and progressive vision. The creative mind. Sharing insights and innovative ways of perceiving.

Feb 27 – New Moon at 9 Pisces – Pisces is the great body of the seas, and it represents the power of our imagination, our ability to empathize, our spiritual and transcendent connections. It is beyond limits and boundaries, in the rhythmic yin yang of in and out, of past and future, of imaginative and real. This is a sensitive New Moon with deep with feelings.

“I listen to my dreams and seek my connection with the powers of my soul to guide me.”
