Astrology for November

The Deep Season of Scorpio
In the Scorpio time of year, we move into the deep. The daylight shortens and the night lengthens. We are drawn inward and feel this shift that carries us toward the ancient gateway of Samhain, October 31–November 1, the Celtic cross-quarter celebration. This is the time when the veils are thinnest between worlds, now echoed in our modern Halloween. A time to honor what has passed, to listen for what endures. This is the halfway mark between the Fall Equinox and the Winter Solstice.
Though we may feel the weight of the dark, Scorpio season invites us to surrender to it, to sink into a deeper personal space, explore hidden mysteries, and touch what has been veiled from our conscious awareness. The latest ‘Telepathic Tapes’ podcast beautifully captures Scorpio’s themes as it explores consciousness beyond death, sharing testimonials from those who have experienced near-death and returned transformed because of their expansion of awareness and understanding of this greater life.
Scorpio is the sign that hosts the great mysteries of being, endowed with penetrating perception, the courage to face shadow, and the drive to uncover truth. As the nights deepen and collective waters stir, we may sense the darker Scorpio qualities of revenge, control, and secrecy rising within our culture. Yet we can also use this time to widen our perspective, to look beyond the surface world and reconnect with the deeper mysteries of life itself.
Walking through our lives with awareness of these two realities, the deconstruction occurring on a cultural level, and the expansion of our perception of what it means to be human present such a paradox. Remembering the greater mysteries within which we live, in spite of political dramas, can lift us into new creative realms. From there we can feel renewed, inspired, and more resilient in our day-to-day life. This is precisely why Sagittarius follows Scorpio: the light of vision and meaning that emerges from the darkness of transformation.
As we enter November, both Saturn and Neptune have slipped back into Pisces after touching the first degree of Aries. What unfinished business calls for closure? What remnants of old patterns still shape our responses and limit our growth? What dream or ideal longs to be brought forward, imagined, felt, and manifested?
The end of October and the beginning of November bring a grand water trine between Mars, Saturn, Neptune, and Jupiter, forming a Kite formation with Uranus. This powerful alignment asks: What actions or behaviors do we want to put in place that can transform our lives? With Jupiter trine Saturn as Jupiter stations and retrogrades at 25° Cancer, we’re invited to breathe deeply into what we most want to create and bring into form.
Mercury goes retrograde in Sagittarius on November 9 at 6°, re-entering Scorpio on November 18, and turning direct on November 29 at 20° Scorpio. This cycle gives us time to review our ideals, beliefs, and plans, and to deepen our communications, especially in intimate relationships. Encounters now can show us clearly what’s working, and what’s not, as we refine our truth and renew our trust in the process of transformation.

Nov 5 – Full SuperMoon, Moon 13 Taurus, 5:19 am PDT, “Beaver Moon”
Under the full Moon in Taurus we can drink in the beauty of this autumn night. Taurus is the sign of the senses, of beauty, and finding comfort in being here. The Taurian energy underscores what is of value to us and gives ground to those values to stabilize our journey. Taurus brings resilience, perseverance, loyalty, and the drive to be fully present and steady in the moment. Do we take the time to experience the beauty around us? Can we take the time to breath in calm and notice our surroundings? The wisdom of Taurus is this deep sensing; seeing, hearing, feeling, the quality of beauty, of creating beauty, opening our hearts to the creative designs of this universe.
Paired with the deep feeling intensity of powerful Scorpio, this pair of opposing fixed signs speaks of the challenge of being human on this Earth, and how the intensity of life can be held in the steady enduring embrace of Taurus calm. This pairing also speaks of the esoteric, the invisible and the manifest, and how we live in both worlds. Under this full Moon we might ask, what deep desires want to be manifest over the coming year? Venus, the ruling planet of Taurus, flavors the full Moon with harmony and grace, thoughtfulness toward others, accentuating the artist and the diplomat before it plunges into the underworld of the sign Scorpio, on November 6th.
With Mars, the ruling planet of Scorpio, having just entered Sagittarius, the time of Scorpio depth pairs itself with philosophical meaning. The adventure now is to seek greater purpose, expand your perceptions. You may wonder how a ruling planet (a dispositor) of a sign the Sun is in (Scorpio), affects the quality of energy we are moving through. That planet (in this case, Mars in Sagittarius) provides the context, resources, and tone for the Sun’s expression through Scorpio. Mars in Sagittarius adds to the Sun’s expression, and literally describes the field it will travel or have access to. So that the Sun traveling through Scorpio up until Nov 4, had as its dispositor, Mars in Scorpio, describing double intensity, with the need to confront shadow and release old ways. Once Mars moves into Sagittarius it shifts the collective energy, reaching for more possibility, lifting the energy into positive movement.
