Astrology for April

April begins with a full Moon in Libra

“Pink Moon”

The Libra full Moon rises on April 1st, when the trees are in bloom and the air is warming. The sign Libra, a Venus ruled sign, is known for its artistic sensibilities, an eye for beauty, and its sensitivities to harmony, proportion, and subtle resonance between beings. As a yang, outgoing sign, its key word is relatedness, and it is the Libra tendency to search for and attract in someone to love.

Libra’s gaze turns toward the other, toward the space between, where connection, reflection, and meaning arise. It is here that we encounter ourselves through relationship, through attraction, through tension, through mirroring. Libra’s instinct is to seek equilibrium, to shape an environment where fairness, reciprocity, and grace can live.

The pairing of Aries and Libra, at the Full Moon, is the archetypal pairing of opposites. Aries, masculine, fiery, conflictual, assertive and self involved, while Libra is feminine, harmonious, peace loving, reflective and thoughtful of others. Aries burns with immediacy: it acts, desires, initiates. Libra pauses, considers, and listens. One says, I am. The other asks, How are we?

The famous psychiatrist and metaphysical thinker Carl Jung, spoke of ‘holding the tension of opposites’ as essential for psychological growth, maturity, and individuation. Through this, Jung taught that true psychological growth comes from allowing the psyche to endure the friction between them. In that living tension, something new can emerge, a third way, a creative resolution born not from reaction, but from awareness.

This Full Moon carries that invitation.

Now, the full Moon opposes the Aries Sun and the conjunction of Saturn and Neptune, activating their energies. This rare and potent conjunction in Aries speaks to the dissolving of old forms and the quiet, often uncertain birth of new ones. What once felt solid feels permeable now. And as this happens, material long held beneath the surface begins to rise, patterns, emotions, relational dynamics asking to be seen in a new light.

And perhaps this is where the ancient wisdom of April 1st, April Fool’s Day, weaves itself into the moment. Traditionally a day of trickery and illusion, it reminds us that not everything is as it appears. Under this Full Moon, we may glimpse the ways we have been “fooled”, not by others, but by our own projections, expectations, and inherited narratives about relationship, fairness, and self-worth.

Highlighted now may be the foolishness of leaders, even as Libra heightens diplomatic negotiations.

Libra asks us to witness not react. What are we seeing at this time? How would we bring more balance and harmony into our lives? What parts of ourselves conflict and how might we come to new resolutions between old conflicts?

And most importantly, as this Full Moon glows and rises at the turning of day into night, in its silent language it calls to us to be with the ones we love and enjoy, to set aside our worries for the evening and soak in the beauty, the mystery, and the awe of this intelligent cosmos in which we live!

April 1 – Full Moon at 12 Libra, 7:12 pm PDT

Mid month, the planets, Mercury, Mars, Saturn, Neptune, the Sun and Moon gather in Aries.

This is a very potent time of intensity and conflicts world-wide. When Mars moves into Aries on the 9th, the warrior and war are emphasized. But it can also be a time of courage and movement, a potent time for new beginnings.

The New Moon In Aries

Apr 17 – The New Moon at 27 Aries is the perfect time to set intentions for the month ahead. This new Moon can be a reset or the start of new beginnings that require new kinds of actions, new ideas, and healing.

This new Moon conjuncts Chiron. This archetype, Chiron, speaks to the wound and healing of both our instinctual self and our masculine or yang energy. Chiron embodies the wound of abandonment. We might reflect on where we abandon ourselves. Chiron is also the wounded healer and teacher. We might feel motivated under this New Moon to begin teaching, studying, or learning. Those of us who hesitant and defer to others, may be inspired to trust ourselves. Those of us who tend to project our thoughts, words, and fears outside ourselves, or on others, may now find ways to be more integrated and mindful.

The planetary ruler of Aries, Mars, can give us more insight about the energy we are involved with under the new Moon and during the month. Mars in Aries, is bold, initiating, separative, at times conflictual.

With Mars now next to Saturn in Aries, it can be disciplined, directing actions and decisions with wisdom, or contained, restricted. If restricted, is it restricting because of doubt or fear, or because a deeper wisdom is slowing down the impulses and shaping our actions (Mars) with skillful discipline to accomplish our goal or task? It’s a bit like the green light that says go, but there is an officer slowing and directing the traffic for fully accomplishing the intended goals.

Take this day to enter the initiatory, courageous, and birthing powers of Aries. What is ready to be started, birthed, or activated? Where might you be creating projections into the future of fear and doubt, which bring up old wounds, that are ready for healing? Where might slowing down support health and greater attunement?

Apr 17 – New Moon at 27 Aries, 4:51 AM PST
