Astrology for March
Mercury retrograde – goes direct on March 9
Mercury entered Pisces on February 3rd before retrograding on the 16th creating an extended stay in Pisces as we enter March. For the planet of communication, planning, and distinct thinking, the sign Pisces is a challenging placement. We can experience this as nothing is clear or pinned down. Everything is uncertain and up in the air. Here we experience the back and forth of this mutable sign with decisions being more difficult. We can feel as if we lack our mooring. Best to proceed by accepting the open, unknown quality of these moments and not to define situations, or reflections on ourselves through emotional turmoil. Here we can reflect on our quality of response to life in general. From March 4 through the 15th, Mercury drops back into clear thinking Aquarius, leaving its retrograde position and going direct on the 9th, then dipping once more into the watery depths of Pisces until April 10th.
We can ask ourselves, what have we seen or learned during these last weeks that can help us understand our emotional states, our needs and yearnings, to help us plan as well as communicate more effectively in the future?
Mars entered Capricorn on Feb 16th and continues in Capricorn until March 30th.
Mars in Capricorn is in stark contrast to Mercury in Pisces. Mars in Capricorn has drive and focus to accomplish goals. It is disciplined and determined. It can carry us towards where we want to go. We witness this duality, the drive for focused accomplishment with the need to sort through the uncertainty and overwhelm of emotional states that lack clarification.
We now have a stellium, or gathering of planets, in the practical, determined, and focused sign of Capricorn. Capricorn represents structure and governing systems, whether it is in the society or within our psyches. With Mars now in Capricorn joining Jupiter, Pluto, and Saturn, the outer planets are activated and charged with action. Jupiter conjuncts Pluto which tackles large projects to transform situations. It exposes areas that have been hidden. It can attack with devastating blows. If there is a project you are now engaged in, there is energy to expand or transform it and determination to reach your goal.
March Celestial Events:
- March 4 – Venus enters Taurus, as we enter springtime we feel the beauty of the earthy realm. Relationships seek harmony and steadiness. Appreciation through all the senses is heightened. Taking time to connect with nature and the nurturing peacefulness it provides can center us once again into what is deeply valuable in life.
- Mar 9 – Full Moon in Virgo aligns with the 4 planets in Capricorn. This brings in strong energy to refine, build, and apply oneself to practical outcomes. With the Sun in Pisces it helps us to capture our imagination into tangible results or it challenges idealism into realistic planning.
- Mar 19 – Spring Equinox, Sun enters Aries. As spring begins we balance between the spontaneous impulses of fire sign Aries, with the powerful determination and disciplined effort of Mars, Jupiter, Pluto, and Saturn in Capricorn. We are in a very focused time period. (This may be very helpful in containing and curbing the coronavirius).
- Mar 21 – Saturn enters Aquarius. Now Saturn leaves Capricorn to structure and provide form to the future looking Aquarius. It shows a new theme developing over the next 3 years. How do we give form and structure to innovative and humanitarian values?

Thoughtful of long-range plans we want to accomplish, we balance between new beginnings and an overview of the long-term goal ahead.
