Astrology for November

Scorpio New Moon on November 1st

In the Scorpio time of year we fall into darkness, the letting go to Fall, as the leaves blaze themselves to the Earth. In the Scorpio time of year the lengthening darkness unveils the deeper mystery and reality in which we live. The starry cosmos communes with us of our origins, of the nature of the mystery, of as above so below. The Solar System was known as the cosmic human with each planet representing a part of the soul of the great being. And so understanding the symbolic nature of the universe, our psyches contain these same parts or archetypes. Our psyches carry the resonances and energies of the planetary bodies.

How could that be? How could one ponder the relationship of the planets to each other and understand something about oneself?

So step outside in the predawn hours. Jupiter shines bright along side the hunter, Orion constellation. Mars, is a red spark in an arch from Jupiter and closer to the horizon. The Dog constellation follows on the heels of the Hunter, with Sirius, the Dog star, twinkling its morning serenade. Venus shines bright in the West after sunset.

Oct 31 to November 1 is known as Samhain in the Celtic celebration of the cross quarter days. This is the Cross Quarter celebration midway between Fall Equinox and Winter Solstice, when the veil between the worlds was the thinnest. (Our Halloween celebration) Another way to see this time is the unveiling of, (as Michael Meade names it), “the World behind the World”. We could imagine that the world behind this world is characterized by the transpersonal planets, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto, the revelatory insights of the divine, the compassionate unifying heart of the divine and the destroying rebirthing aspects of the divine.

Nov 1 – New Moon at 9 Scorpio, 5:47 am PDT – trining Saturn in Pisces

New Moon in Scorpio

What a potent time we are in! The Scorpio time of year always sets us deep in our feelings and the emotional interaction with others and the collective environment. Ruled by Pluto, we are shown 1) the dregs and repressed shadow material, both personally and collectively, with the ability, once seen, to acknowledge, name, and transform our relation to. We are seeing this very potently in the political arena. Pluto signifies the polarity between power and the powerless. We witness how each candidate embodies and expresses their use of power. Scorpio is also ruled by the warrior Mars, and here we see the determination to compete, to attack.

The more conscious expression of this Pluto Mars alignment is the courage to directly confront what is not true or no longer supporting our evolutionary growth in consciousness, both within ourselves and in the structures of our society. Scorpio is the sign of investigation, research, and the drive to dig deep for insight and truth, especially bringing out unexamined behaviors in order to transform our relations with each other, how we treat each other.

This New Moon trines Saturn in Pisces. This alignment can both amplify the challenges, the struggles among us, as well as be a time when introspection is supported through Saturn’s ability to hold, focus, and bring forth wisdom from the feeling Piscean waters. A day for focus, commitment and discipline to complete the tasks at hand.

We also see from the New Moon chart how the rulers of Scorpio are in opposition, (Mars and Pluto) intensifying the need to win, to take up power, to aggressively engage with the force of power through the shadow qualities of our collective being (hate, racism, oppression etc), bringing conflict and potential violence. We see this in the political arena. With Mars going retrograde on December 6-February 23, we experience the challenge of Mars and Pluto through April 26th. Most potently during the week of the election and the first week of January with the electoral college votes, then finishing with less potency April 26th.

We can ask, “What is the higher manifestation of the Mars Pluto opposition?” Pluto’s driving urge is to transform. The nature of this urge is so powerful it can dominate, violate, throw us into the alchemical phase of the Nigredo (the blackening). “Psychologically, the Nigredo represents the beginning of transformation. It is the Dark Night of the Soul, the death that creates the opportunity for rebirth. It is a period of recognizing and facing one’s shadow as the first step toward integration and wholeness.” (https://www.helpingwritersbecomeauthors.com/alchemy-of-character-arc/)

We might see ourselves collectively moving through this stage as an awakening and rebirth to what is to come. We may use it personally to schedule time for self reflection, rituals of clearing, examining how we view ourselves and others, and where are we engaging extremes and projecting shadow.

This New Moon also has two other significant oppositions taking place. One is Venus in Sagittarius opposing Jupiter in Gemini. This gives us a lift. Encourages us to see the good in each other, to share with each other the greater meaning of these times. The other opposition is Mercury in Scorpio opposing Uranus in Taurus. This proposes a breakthrough, a change of perspective, a crisis in our thinking that provides the space to go into deeper inquiry around our perspectives on life.

Affirmation for New Moon in Scorpio

I feel the potency of this time so I find my equanimity. I bring inquiry into what triggers me, and I explore the patterns through which I approach challenging relationships. In self refection, I turn to an oracle, asking to reveal unconscious aspects of myself for rebirth and renewal.

The outer planets, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto align in the harmonious minor grand trine, showing a dramatic shifting of themes toward a new future, with the potential power of breakthrough, building through the next 24 months. What ideals do we hold dear, and what vision will we carry forward to create our future? The alignment of outer transpersonal planets create a potent shift from the challenges of that last decade. How do we participate? What vision will carry us forward into this new time?
