Astrological Insights for June 2014, by Susan Heinz
High in the Northern skies, the Big Dipper pours itself over the horizon, as the night reveals the sparkling cosmos. Turning to the south Mars is a red lantern, revealing its fiery nature. The bright star calling us to the West at twilight is Jupiter. Such a drama is being played out! Now with Mars direct, we are freed into forward movement, obstacles ease up. A rush of movement and events take place. We gallop into June, once again picking up our original intentions, after having been tested, forced to deal with strategies of living that now longer serve us. In this Year of the Horse, in the month of airy Gemini, we are eager to encounter the next possibility.
June continues to carry the intensity of this rare planetary “Cardinal Cross”, the alignment of Pluto, Uranus, Jupiter and Mars. (see www.susanheinz.com for detailed descriptions of the planetary alignments for 2014). We hang suspended between the old and the new, and feel the tension of these polarities battling it out globally, politically, economically, and personally within our psyches. Pluto, along with Saturn in Scorpio, brings up what we have kept hidden, or aspects of what has formed our societies that we prefer not to see, exposing the underbellies of our policies. We feel the chaos of this time. Many of us experience vulnerability as we navigate through the tension, holding opposing forces within our own lives and not knowing what the outcome will be. Like the caterpillar, we have woven and entered a cocoon of metamorphosis. We are experiencing the dissolving of what we have been accustomed to. An alignment of a Grand Water Trine, emphasizing Neptune in Pisces, the Great Dissolver, churns this process while containing the imaginative possibilities of new birth.
Mercury goes retrograde on the 7th, (direct July 1st), notoriously known as a problem causer, a trickster complicating our lives! If we look at the heavens as an instructional map of how to move with the flow of life, we than see Mercury retrograde differently. Mercury teaches us that its retrograde period is a “yin” time of the year, time for reflection, review, and correction. When Mercury turns direct, we move into a “yang” time, ready to move forward with plans, schedules, and outgoing situations. During this retrograde cycle, reflection on the quality of our relationships, and what we would like to cultivate anew in our lives, benefits us.
The full Moon in Sagittarius takes place on June 12. This is a playful and adventurous moon that loves learning and travel. The summer Solstice, on June 21st, brings the longest day of the year. The sun stands still (solstice) for three days at dawn on the Southeastern horizon, before reversing its direction toward the Northeast. The Solstice brings the Sun into Cancer, sign of home and family, and the sign of stabilizing ourselves through a strong inner connection with trust in ourselves and our journey! The New Moon in Cancer takes place on June 27. Here it harmoniously aligns with compassionate and imaginative Neptune. Start a new artistic project!
