December Astrology
Dec 2 – Jupiter into Capricorn: Jupiter enters Capricorn every 12 years. Last time it was in Capricorn was 2008 through January 2009. Jupiter supports growth and new opportunities. Now it favors the earth signs, Capricorn, Taurus and Virgo, as well as supporting the water signs.
Dec 9 – Mercury into Sagittarius: Communications quicken, with a philosophical or moral bent.
Dec 11 – Full Moon in Gemini- Under the full Moon in Gemini, social interactions are increased. This is an excellent full moon for learning and writing. Be aware of taking on too many obligations and spreading ourselves too thin.
Dec 15 – Jupiter in Capricorn trines Uranus in Taurus: When Jupiter trines Uranus we feel inspired and can take on new endeavors. Our thinking can be broader and more inventive. These two planets shake up the earth signs to think and act outside of the box. This is a good time to initiate a new project, or collaboration, to open up to new ideas, and receive insights.
Dec 19 – Venus enters Aquarius: allowing more detachment and equanimity in relationship. Friendships are highlighted
Dec 21 – Winter Solstice, Sun into Capricorn : the return of the light, the days begin to lengthen. This is a special Winter Solstice as it is followed by a Solar Eclipse on Christmas, and a conjunction with Jupiter. (more on this below)To the indigenous people the world over this was a sacred time, a time to go into meditation and ritual as they attuned themselves with the rhythms of the earth and sun. Solstice means stands still. During the solstice the sun rises in the same spot on the horizon for 3 days, then reverses its movement along the horizon at dawn to move once again toward the eastern point.
Dec 25 – Solar Eclipse, New Moon: this Solar Eclipse aligns with Jupiter. It is an interesting time of growth through the disciplined and structured sign of Capricorn. Setting goals with the intention of step by step progress brings success. It is a very potent year ahead as we are challenged to grow in terms of our deep inner wisdom or to abdicate our power and authority to the old judgmental patriarchy paradigm. Capricorn was considered the most sacred of the signs to the ancient peoples for it was through that sign that the light returned from the darkness. When the patriarchy took over, the sign of authority and inner knowing was usurped to be outer authority, control, and conservatism. As we move into the new paradigm let’s take back the power of the earth signs, the feminine or yin signs, by honoring our inner knowing and valuing the earth. Imagine yourself sitting high in the Sierra’s, seeing the great mountains peaks, and feeling the power and grandeur of these mountains. This is Capricorn, when we take on the tasks to enter into these places, we plan and walk with patience as we move forward to our goals, goals of self realization and wisdom.
Dec 27 – Sun conjunct Jupiter in Capricorn
Dec 28 – Mercury enters Capricorn
Jan 10 – Lunar eclipse, Full Moon in Cancer, aligning with Saturn and Pluto, with Uranus going direct. This turn of the year is potent, calling for our determination, and a steadying of our emotional body. We have tasks ahead of us in order to cross into the new paradigm. Many of us are confronting our shadows, and where we limit ourselves, reorienting ourselves to life sustaining values and social justice as we move into the new paradigm. The Earth is at a crisis point, an awakening point, while there is a battle between the old and new. The new carries the vision of radical transformation of all of our systems. The new paradigm calls for us to know ourselves as creators, to know the power we each carry, and to clear out the shadows of the patriarchal age, to understand the many dimensions within which we live and the interrelatedness of all life.
Jan 12 – Saturn conjuncts Pluto at 23 Capricorn, with Mercury and the Sun; We have been in the influence of these two planetary archetypes all year and this continues into 2020. Here Saturn demands that we face the shadow material of what we have repressed. Pluto demands that we transform the structures on which we have built our governments and economies, the hierarchies through which we have created our culture and society, as well as our own sense of identity. On the other hand, when Saturn conjuncts Pluto, the authorities in power seek to tighten control and domination. These are times when totalitarianism around the world increases. Just as true is the determination that rises to over throw those in power and expose that which is rotten and corrupt from within.
