Astrology for December 2014
Orion, the giant hunter, now climbs the skies after sunset, mounting the Eastern horizon, a guardian, glittering in his star spangled belt. After Scorpio’s time of descending darkness, jolting us into change, surprising us with darken afternoons, we begin to shift. Accustomed now, we look forward to gatherings, and good cheer, to share warmth from within. Sagittarius expands us, takes us to new places, and confronts us with the mystery of the night’s beauty. Go look at the stellar show careening overhead.
The full Moon takes place on December 6th. It’s high energy. It takes us to the edge of something new. Take heart, as we also see the collective playing out the intensity of very old thinking, old power struggles. Pluto, whose domain is the subterranean realm of humanity’s collective psyche, is bringing up and out old paradigm programming, polarized perspectives, oppression, fear, and outrage, as it clashes in its 6th exact alignment with revolutionary Uranus, (Dec 14). Revolution, freedom, and the peoples’ voices demand to be heard. Uranus in Aries seeks to break with the old and stimulate the highest vision, and wisdom, that our race can bear. In our personal lives, support change, fuel directions to create new realities in alignment with being fully present. There is a great initiation taking place. Can we broaden our view, grasp our profane interrelatedness, and inhabit our powers as creators, while sustaining this dissolution and metamorphosis?
Throughout December Uranus is at what astrologers call its station to direct point, at 12 degrees Aries. This is the point where it appears that Uranus is once again moving forward in the zodiac instead of retrograding backward through the zodiac. During this phase in the cycle, a tension builds as there is a bursting forth of Uranian energy. For the month of December these Uranian archetypes increase; unexpected and disruptive changes, rebellion, reform, innovation, breakup of structures that hold society in place, and for those who can ride the rocket ship of openness to the moment, to what moves one, and follow its flow, the Awakener, visionary creativeness. In the Tarot, Uranus is correlated with the Fool.
The winter solstice takes place under the auspices of the new Moon in Capricorn on December 21st.The longest night gives way to the return of lengthening daylight, a sacred moment in the cycle of the year, promising hope and renewal. Yet at the winter solstice, just like any cycle that comes to its end, there is a period of discontinuity, a gap, where uncertainty reigns. So it is our ritual to gather and share our visions of a new time.
Twelve opportunities for December: For Sun and Rising Signs
Aries (Mar 20-Apr 19): Situations are opening up for you. It becomes easier to feel comfortable with people, who you once felt judged by. Affection and enjoyment are present as well as a certain constrain, or even challenge, to openness and relaxation. You would prefer a more intimate space or even to draw up into your own internal thoughts, but it is a good time for change, for shifting all perspectives, and breaking your molds. Set aside your standards for the holidays and enjoy playing!
Taurus (Apr 20-May 20): As we move into December balancing your finances is important. Look at where you are supported financially and where you need to conserve. Motivation toward accomplishment moves you on.
Gemini (May 21-Jun 20): During the first weeks of December, relationship, friendship, and collaborations are highlighted. It is a wonderful time to meet new people and to try new things. Sweetness in friendship is present. Toward the end of the month it is good to slow down socially. Find your boundaries and don’t overextend yourself. Now a redefinition in relationship is needed.
Cancer (Jun 21–Jul 21): In this hectic month find a day to dedicate to yourself, preferably at the new moon, and retreat. Recharge yourself with water therapy, listening to good music, or no plan at all. There is much energy concentrated toward relationship, and enjoyment at the solstice.
